Default NFL/College football 2009

Although I do love to antagonize Aofive and Cal in the political forum, one of my true loves is football, so a few questions for yall.

How do you think Tom Bradys injury will impact the Patriots this year?

Aofive, will McFadden be the Raiders saving grace?

I think Arkansas will win 3 Games this year, 2 non conference, and an upset (I am thinking Florida or Bama, but they might go 4-8 if they can beat Tulsa), thoughts?

Is the SEC the toughest conference in College football? If so why?

Does USC deserve the number one spot, or does the fact that the PAC-10 is a WEAK conference override that?

Hopefully the Patriots will never win another game. Tom Brady is the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

IT WAS A FUMBLE!!!!!

I am sure McFadden will do great things in the NFL. How my Raiders do this year, I think will depend on if Russell comes into his own or not. I will still stick with my team no matter what but, I sure hope he can get the vertical attack going better than it has been in recent years.

Could not tell you about the colleges. I rarely watch a college game.

LOL I agree it was most definately a fumble. I have the unfortunate displeasure of being a DIEHARD 49ers fan, which I am sure will result in much laughter accross the forums, however I think if they can get Alex Smith healthy again, they will have a shot at least for breaking even.

Don't know about Patriots.

McFadden is a franchise back and capable of doing for the Raiders what Marcus Allen did for the Raiders. It will, unfortunately, take more than McFadden, but the future has bright spots. Go Raiders!

I agree with your assessment of the Razorbacks season 100%.

Yes, SEC is toughest conference. Check out national championships and number of players drafted per conference. How many SEC teams are ranked in the top 25? There would be more, but the SEC is so tough that it knocks its own members out of the rankings. In the SEC there is rarely a gimme.......you had better come to play every game .

USC is tough year after year. They are a legit top 5 team......but I think they will find holding that ranking now a lot easier than winning the national championship.

It was definitely a fumble.

Well, halfway through NCAA football Saturday and so far it has been a blast. Watched Maryland manhandle Cal and dropped in on Mizzou Beating Nevada like they stole something. Right now I am watching Purdue soundly beat #16 Oregon, and I don't see them fading. Go Boilermakers!!! Special shout to my Iowa Hawkeyes who brought the CyHawk trophy back to Iowa City where it belongs. Cal, it looks like the SEC's bell of the ball #2 Georgia is having some trouble with the unranked South Carolina upstarts. We will see, but I think Steve Spurrier's gamecocks. We will see!!!

Great news!! Hurricane Ike caused the Arkansas/Texas game to get postponed. That means we get to postpone being shredded by Texas for two whole weeks! Yay!

Georgia/South Carolina........there aren't many gimmes in the SEC. Looks like Georgia eked it out about like Arkansas against Louisiana-Monroe.

Did anyone else besides me think that the Auburn Mississippi State Game was Ridiculuous!! 3-2 are you kidding me, I thought this was football, not Baseball. I echo your sentiments Aofive and USC did not dissapoint. Cal you are correct that there are no gimmies in the SEC. Lets see how long USC can hold the Number one spot. I dont think Georgia is worthy of number two after that embarrasing performance against South Carolina.
It was nice to hear that my Niners actually won a game. It also doesnt look like Tom Bradys injury is having that much of an effect on the Pats offense. Sorry all you KC fans out there, but the Raiders did a great job this weekend. It was nice to see them win one the way they did. That defensive coordinator is a Beast!!!

I, of course, was very happy yesterday. D Mac looked awesome. However it was KC, so I am tentatively optimistic.

I agree Cal that McFadden is definately a franchise running back, which I don't think the raiders have had since Bo Jackson!!!! Adrian Peterson is another Beast, minnesota better not ever let him go. He will do for them what Barry Sanders did for detroit, not win them a whole lot of games, but make watching them really entertaining. My early pick to win the superbowl......................................... .............Pittsburgh over Dallas 21-17.

Go Hawgs...................!!!!!!

Nah . . . The Cowboys still owe the Steelers for those two Superbowls in 1976 and 1979. Especially that Lynn Swann, pass interference, call! I'll go the other way . . .

Dallas 21, Pittsburg 17

M4L...you said, "Is the SEC the toughest conference in College football? If so why?"

This snippet from today's Gazette may have bearing:

"The Razorbacks play five of the Top 10, including four in a row beginning Saturday against No. 9 Alabama.

Then it’s No. 7 Texas, No. 4 Florida and No. 10 Auburn.

Arkansas doesn’t have to worry about playing No. 6 LSU until Nov. 28.

Arkansas has a very tough schedule indeed, although texas is in the big 12, the SEC still has I think, the most power in NCAA Div I football. I think that Arkansas might stand a chance against LSU only for the simple fact that they play them late in the season when injuries and fatigue have set in, and also I believe that just like last year, LSU will underestimate the Hawgs. We will see.

I feel marginally better about the Alabama/Arkansas game after the way Alabama spanked Georgia yesterday.

Geez, we looked godawful against Texas. Next spanking will come from Florida who will now be out for blood. Po', po' Piggies.

Auburn has been on a downhill slide since the beginning of the season. It didn't surprise me at all. Like I said, Arkansas will have 3 wins this season, and they just got all three.

True, M4, Auburn has been on a slide and does not deserve their ranking. However.......they got 13 points off of turnovers, 7 points on a kickoff return, and 2 points from an on-purpose safety. In other words, if it hadn't been for Arkansas gifts, they would have scored zero points.

I find that encouraging enough that I'm going to up their season from a 3 win to a 4 win. Especially considering that the soft part of their season is ahead of them.

Bet you a Corona.

Deal, but dont count out LSU, Mississippi State or South Carolina, my bet is if Arkansas DOES get a win, it will come from Tulsa

AAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH! What a meltdown! Had the KY game in the bag.

On another note, "Rivals.com currently has Bobby Petrino’s Razorbacks No. 17 in the nation for the Class of 2009. That’s the good news, but the bad news is there’s five SEC schools ahead of them."

Yeah, I still think the SEC is the toughest conference.

So, will Texas tech fall to Oklahoma on saturday and open the door for a potential Alabama-Florida National Championship game?

Top 8 teams in the BCS seeded according to the BCS. 3 weeks of games. Shorten the regular season by 1 week. Go one week beyond Jan 1.

The Jan 1 games are not of the same import as when I eagerly looked forward to New Years Day for the last of the college football. Now they are often 2nd rate games with the meaningful games after the 1st.

We just gotta find a new way!

The Sugar Bowl is the 2nd and the Fiesta Bowl is the 5th, BCS Championship is the 8th of January.

Ha ha, I was only a recreational hawg fan for buisiness purposes, although I like them a lot more than the tide or the gators, but my heart will always be with the Iowa hawkeyes who absolutely DESTROYED that "unstoppable" spread option offense that Georgia tech brought to the table. As far as Oakland goes, their money would be better spent on a wide reciever or tight end to open up some breathing room for d mac. Gradkowski is not that bad of a qb. Also, offensive linemen help too. So where does tebow go? My guess is Tampa bay or Cleveland
