Welcome to MHTalk!

I'd like to be the first to welcome to you an all new site for Mountain Home and the Twin Lakes area.  The idea for the site came from the relative popularity of the Baxter Bulletin's "Story Chat" feature.  I could see that many people liked the opportunity to talk to one another about all sorts of things.  However, being run by a newspaper, a full-blown forum isn't exactly their plan or purpose.  So I figured why not take what I know and do something that would allow more flexibility and room to grow.

Enter MHTalk.  I've run and moderated several forums around the net for years.  I already have the server and capabilities to do this, so it appeared to be a no brainer to take the gifts God has granted me and used them to give back to this community that I love so very much.  And best of all, it's 100% free!

The site is essentially broken down into two sections...

Articles

The articles will be written by myself or others around the community or things that I find out there on my trek around the internet.  They will cover a myriad of topics of local and/or general interest.  If you'd like to submit an article, please feel free.  We'd love to have more local content.

Forum

The forum is much like any internet-based forum.  It allows virtually unlimited discussions on any number of topics.  Of course it also supports private messaging between forum posters as well as user profiles for everybody to tell us a bit about themselves.

We'll likely start out with a very small number of specific forums but will add new forums as user discussions grow in both number and variety.  If you have an idea for a specific forum to discuss issues, please don't hesitate to suggest it.  Likewise if you have a church group or civic organization and would your own dedicated section for your members, I'm more than happy to set that up as well.

Overall, the idea is to provide a site where people can discuss anything that's on their minds from the ease and comfort of their favorite computer chair. The only thing we ask in return is that you keep things civil and family-friendly.

Anyone into poetry?  Snowy's 'Philosophy" thread is insightful and very calming to read.  Maybe poetry has that same calming affect to some...it works for me.  If you have favorite poets and works, please share.

My favorite classic poet is William Butler...

Well the Baxter Bulletin has decided to "upgrade" their site.   Unfortunately it's horribly bloated.  The front page is over 767KB with no fewer than 83 images and over 240KB in JavaScript!  This makes it essentially unusable by anybody on dialup or with a...
